Athletics & Co-curricular
While our core curriculum features many activities normally considered extra-curricular, MWS also offers after school programs in sports and music enrichment.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
MWS offers an after school care option until 5:30pm for students in grades one through five. Designed to meet the varied needs of our working parents, students can enroll for the year or choose a drop-in option.
For registration and pricing information please contact Kristin Hallowell >
MWS offers intramural sport opportunities in XC Running, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Skiing and Circus Arts. Many of our students participate in a variety of sports through their town recreation departments or independent programs and the Keene Middle School welcomes our students into their competitive sports programs as well.
Winter sport is dominated by our basketball teams (The Fighting Gnomes) that compete in a regional league for independent schools in grades 6–8.
Seasonal Intramural Sports
Students in grades 6–8 can join our intramural XC Running team in fall and Ultimate Frisbee in spring.
Winter Ski Program
For six winter weeks, students in grades 5-8 can opt to spend Friday afternoons on the slopes! MWS organizes a bus to Crotched Mountain in Francestown, NH where students take lessons and ski or snowboard. Students in grades 1-4 spend these winter Fridays ice skating at Keene Ice or sledding at Robin Hood Park.
Year round, students in grades 3-8 can develop their athletic prowess through the circus arts. An adventure in strength, balance, flexibility and imaginative fun, students learn exciting skills that build self-confidence and poise.
MUSIC & Arts
Led by music teacher Bruce Elliot, the Jazz Band meets weekly to explore improvisation and jazz technique. The band prepares several signature pieces each semester to perform at our fall and spring concerts.
