Dear Student and Parents,
Thank you for your interest in the High School program at Monadnock Waldorf School. Our pioneering High School is looking for freshman, sophomore and junior students and their families to join our commitment to Waldorf education at the High School Level. This is an education designed to hone essential skills in an atmosphere of academic excellence and, even more, to prepare young people to contribute fully to the tasks of life with courage, compassion, and conviction.
A spirit of active interest, engagement and inquiry permeates our classes and activities, which in turn fosters creativity, responsibility, and a caring approach to the world, to nature, to others, and to one's self. At Monadnock Waldorf High School, you will find these values modeled by the teachers, school staff, and especially by the older students.
What are the truths of the world and what questions does the adolescent need to ask to understand her or his place in this world? Developing the capacities for healthy judgement and for creative and independent thinking, engaging ideals and values that will be tested in real-life experiences throughout the High School years, and exploring these questions with peers and teachers worthy of trust and admiration will set our students on a search for their own answers.
Our High School is housed in the beautiful Tilden School building on School Street in Keene, a building made possible through our close work with a small group of community-minded people. With its 11-foot ceilings and spacious, light-filled classrooms, this grand old building has been serving students in Keene for 125 years. The historic structure and its location are well suited to a High School program enriched by, and also enriching, the life of downtown Keene, which serves as our extended campus.
We warmly welcome applications from students in Waldorf School, public schools, independent schools, and from those who have been home-schooled. Please do not hesitate to contact me or the school with any questions you may have or to arrange a visit and interview.
With best regards,
Karl Schurman HS Chair
