The History of MWS
Monadnock Waldorf School was founded in 1976 as the Tomte Gubben School, at first educating preschool children and then beginning an elementary education program in 1980.

In 1982, in recognition of the broader appeal that came with growth, the school changed its name to Monadnock Waldorf School and moved to the former Lincoln School building in Keene, NH (our current home) with the first eighth grade graduating in 1987. As the school continued to attract more families, the Nursery Kindergarten relocated in 1992 to a beautiful 12 acre site on the Old Walpole Road in Keene. In 2001, the elementary school was again expanded, and in 2004 we added two classrooms to the Nursery Kindergarten. In 2007, hours at the Nursery Kindergarten were expanded to better meet the needs of working parents.
