MWS Adding to our Play Space at the Elementary School!

At the end of the last school year and over the summer we negotiated to purchase the property adjacent to our elementary school on Wilber St. We are delighted to announce that those negotiations have reached a happy conclusion and we will add this quarter acre to our elementary school property. Our intention for the property is to add green play space and gardening space to our school grounds.
In these difficult economic times, we knew our approach to purchasing the land needed to be conservative. With guidance from our Finance Committee and Board of Trustees, feedback from the Parent Council, and a generous gift from donors to our school, we closed on the purchase Thursday, October 27. One great financial benefit is the opportunity this purchase provides for us to refinance our modest current mortgage at a lower rate, thus minimizing the financial impact to our school. The purchase of this small property will add about $140 to our monthly expenses.
Going forward, the faculty is pleased to be working to develop a long-term plan for use of the land. In the short term, there are many things to consider, including safe use issues, before we can begin enjoying the space. We are all very excited for our students to begin playing out there and we look forward to developing this much-needed additional outdoor space.
The new land is just above the elementary school parking lot on Wilber Street.
